The conversation

A conversation about changes of direction that come not from a crisis but from a review: what was weighed, what was risked, and what judgement was left afterwards.

What we want to understand

  1. When did you know you no longer wanted to stay where you were? The signal is almost never a moment; it is an accumulation that takes time to recognise.
  2. Which fear did you have to face first?Naming the specific fear changes the conversation: it stops being "I can’t" and becomes something concrete.
  3. What held you through the months with no results? This is usually where the least visible and most transferable strategy sits.

This interview has not been recorded yet. So that no words are attributed to anyone, what you see here are the questions from the interview guide rather than answers.

What we want to make visible

The moment the fear gets a different name

What the interview sets out to produce: the guest describes in detail what they feared and, in detailing it, separates the real risk from the imagined one. The decision stops looking like an act of courage and becomes a calculation someone else can repeat.

Not recorded yet. What you see here is what the interview sets out to produce. Once the episode exists, this block points at the actual moment and its timestamp.

What's underneath

The analysis for this episode will be published alongside the conversation.

Sample content. This analysis was written to show the format of the prototype. It is not Rolando López’s actual analysis.

The strategy

Fear as information

How to tell a fear that protects from a fear that merely repeats, and what to do with each.

  1. Write itPut the fear into a complete sentence. If you cannot finish it, you already know something.
  2. SharpenAsk what exactly you fear will happen, and when.
  3. SortDoes it point at a real missing condition, or repeat an old idea about you?
  4. RespondIf it points at a condition, turn it into a task. If it repeats an idea, find it an exception.
  5. ReviewCome back in a week and see whether the fear has changed shape.

A presentation example — not an actual model of Rolando’s. It exists to show how a framework would look inside Enlace Mental.

Putting it to work

Five questions before you decide

A short guide to use before a decision you have been postponing for a while.

  1. What exactly am I deciding, in one sentence?
  2. What genuinely matters to me in this area?
  3. What does each option leave out?
  4. Which absence could I live with for a year?
  5. What would I do to make up for what I leave out?

Takes about 15 minutes. It is an educational exercise, not a clinical intervention.

To think about

  • What exactly do you fear will happen?
  • What would have to be true for that fear to be right?
  • What is this fear protecting, even if it limits you now?
  • What would you do if you knew you could correct course halfway?
